Pengenalan

Buku Kepercayaan Buddhis (What Buddhist Believe, terbitan Buddhist Missionary Society Malaysia) hasil tulisan Ven. Dr. K Sri Dhammananda merupakan antara buku Buddhisme yang paling popular di kalangan Buddhis Malaysia. Dalam buku tersebut, Bhante telah menerangkan dengan terperinci ajaran Buddha khusus kepada orang kebiasaan di Malaysia secara umumnya. Penekanan diberi terhadap penjelasan tentang cara praktik Buddhis dan salah faham yang biasa wujud di kalangan masyarakat masa kini. Adalah difahamkan bahawa buku tersebut telah diterjemahkan kepada berpuluh-puluh bahasa lain di serata dunia.

Projek terjemahan buku ini (setahu saya) telah bermula sejak tahun 1989 lagi. Pada masa tersebut usaha penterjemahan telah diagihkan kepada beberapa kumpulan Buddhis di serata Malaysia. Fasa pertama, iaitu terjemahan dari teks Inggeris ke Bahasa Malaysia telah hampir siap. Namun disebabkan masalah-masalah tertentu, buku hasil karya Yang Mulia Dhammananda sampai ke hari ini masih tidak siap.
